December 27, 2004 - Consumers need to pay attention to people that may be standing near them, and carrying cell phones, when they make a purchase. Many of the newer cell phones on the market also contain digital cameras. Thieves can use these cameras to photograph personal information, such a driver’s license numbers, credit card numbers and checking account numbers, if they can get close enough to consumers when a purchase is being made. December 10, 2004 - A federal appeals court in Chicago has ruled that a car dealership's direct mail promotion may have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) because it boldly told consumers they were pre-approved for both a major credit card and up to $19,500 in "automotive credit', but then in the fine print only guaranteed a $300 line of credit. December 4, 2004 - Holiday shopping can be a real hassle. First, you have to fight the traffic to get to the mall and find a parking spot, which is usually someplace out in Timbuktu. Then you have to fight your way through that blisteringly cold 65 degree wind in the parking lot (OK, so I live in California) to get inside. Finally, you find yourself confronted with hordes of people, all trying to buy the same thing you are. All in all, it can be pretty miserable experience. Fri, 03 Dec 2004 19:57:09 GMT -

December 1, 2004 - For some time now, a number of companies have offered consumers free credit reports. November 29, 2004 - Gift cards seem like the perfect present. They're easy to get and fun to receive. This last year (2003) consumers spent more that $45 billion on these easy-to-buy presents, a 50% gain over 2002. Spending on gift cards is now projected to hit $90 billion by 2007. In 2001, the average gift card was $200. With this much money at stake, merchants are finding creative ways to be naughty rather than nice. Hidden within the fine print are some penalties that could sour the Christmas spirit. Tue, 30 Nov 2004 08:20:51 GMT
